Navigating the Shift: Transitioning from Private Practice to a DSO
Dr Douglas Palmer was born in Chicago. His family moved to Southern California when he was 4.
Dr Palmer attended California State College, now the University of Fullerton, on a full-ride academic scholarship. After three years, he was admitted to Northwestern University School of Dentistry. He served as a dentist in the United States Air Force, spending those years in Texas, Sheppard, and Kelly Air Force Bases.
He originally settled in Lake Bluff, Illinois, with a private practice in Lake Forest. He missed working with other dentists and sold that practice to join a group practice in Wisconsin.
He enjoyed that practice, but after 8 years, Dr Palmer left to go back out on my own.
He purchased a successful private practice in Montgomery, Illinois, and finally found my niche. In 2000, he moved the practice to a new building he built in Oswego, Illinois.
Dr Palmer served his patients and staff there until 2020. After 45+ years of practice, he retired from dentistry and moved south to Georgia to be closer to his family, which had relocated south, and to be just a little warmer.
He was a member of the American Dental Association, Wisconsin Dental Association, Illinois Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. He served on various committees in those associations.
He is very committed to continuing education and earned a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.
